For this project, we were put into groups immediately and assigned a specific pathogen that we would become experts on. You may think, a single pathogen? How can a single pathogen have so much information to learn about? Well, there is. There is plenty. There were both individual and group parts of the assignment explained below.
Group Presentation
The pathogen that my group got assigned was influenza. We had to include things in the presentation such as it's common names, the size and shape, symptoms of the disease it causes, how it reproduces in the host, the prognosis, etc. There were four people per group and we split up the different topics needed to be covered by each person. The presentation was on average 30 minutes, so about 7-8 minutes per person.
Attention! I would say that for any speech it is best to fully understand what you are saying, not just memorize the words to memorize them. That way, if you get mixed up on what you are saying or lose your place, you can continue on even if it isn't exactly what you planned on saying it is somewhat on the same track. Comprehension is the most important part to a presentation, you really have to know the material like the back of your own hand. That is not going to happen overnight. Take time every day to practice a little bit! Individual Summaries
There were a few individual summaries assigned for each group member to complete by themselves. This ensures that the material being produced for the group presentation is coming from everyone and is coming from multiple sources. The summary will be on a certain article on whatever topic it is Lutu tells you to do it on from your pathogen.
Important! Many people assume that this is easy points, but it is not! Be sure to double check the formatting, cited sources, etc. because silly mistakes like that dock off more points than you would think. |
