Cardiorespiratory system

Basic Curriculum
Cardiorespiratory system was the last unit of the year in medical terminology. In the cardiorespiratory system unit, we did the usual word elements and vocab but we also looked up and defined all the veins and arteries in the body. The picture to the left shows a diagram of all the veins of the body and the picture to the right shows a picture of all the arteries of the body. It was important that we got these definitions in and correct because not only would they be on the exam, they would also be used for the project.

Cardiorespiratory Veins & Arteries of the
Body Project The project that we got assigned for the cardiorespiratory system was to create a full size body diagram of all the veins and arteries in the body. We had three people in our groups and we started by outlining one of them. Then we got the list of arteries and veins and started sketching them on to the body. It is key to stay organized and patient through this project. If you try to rush it the project will end up looking sloppy and incomprehensible. You have to leave space for all of the definitions to be glued on next to the appropriate vein/artery. It is a lot of work and takes quite a bit of time but there is a reason that it's a group project! Don't try to do it all by yourself. Depend on your group members, that's what they are there for. A picture of my groups finished project is at the top of the page.

The purpose of this unit was to understand the circulation of blood throughout the body and to understand the function/anatomy of the heart. Again, this is a big unit because there are so many veins and arteries in the body. The heart is somewhat confusing and is easily mixed up on the direction of blood flow, names of the atrium and ventricles, etc. However, I really really really cannot stress it enough, don't let the sound of it get you overwhelmed. It is doable. As long as you stay focused and truly dedicate yourself to learning the information, it is completely possible. Don't let the challenge be enough to prevent you from trying, just set goals for each day and do what it takes to accomplish them! One step at a time.
