Below I have some background information about myself so you have some sort of idea on who I am. I tried to focus information on this website specifically toward students from the PPS district who are interested in CAL because of my experiences of being one of the firsts from PPS to have this opportunity. I hope you all enjoy!

Franklin High schoolI am one of only two students that currently attend CAL from the Portland Public Schools district. This makes me unique in several ways and though It is a huge challenge, in my opinion, it is completely worth it. Having to take public transportation, which results in over an hour travel time there and back home, has probably been the hardest part. It's a huge inconvenience that it takes this long to get to school and home but I have not let that stop me from being successful in my education. At the beginning of the year it was difficult to fit in because every other home high school had a group of students attending and I was a so-called "lone ranger." However, it has been a great growing experience in having to work with people I don't know and stepping out of my comfort zone.

SportsIn high school I have pursued my love of sports by playing soccer in the fall and lacrosse in the spring. It is such a rewarding experience to be a part of a team, you learn cooperation skills that are so essential to the work field. I have played soccer for 8 years and lacrosse for 5. In soccer I play right forward and in lacrosse I play either low A or A-wing. Because Franklin doesn't have a lacrosse team I have played for Cleveland, a school near Franklin, during my high school years.

ClubsI have been a part of several clubs during the past few years such as National Honor Society, Advanced Scholar Program, Red Cross Club, etc. These extracurricular activities have helped me to stay connected and involved at my home high school even though the time that I spend there is so little. It makes me feel more a part of the student body and helps in making irreplaceable memories with such amazing people.

LeadershipSince Freshman year I automatically got into our student council at Franklin. During my first few weeks in high school I was elected Class Secretary/Treasurer and I just continued on from there. Sophomore year I was elected Class Vice-President, Junior year I was elected Student Body Secretary/Treasurer and just recently I have been elected Student Body Vice President for my upcoming Senior year. These roles that I have served within my high school have enabled me to become a stronger leader and use my responsibility for the benefit of our student body.
