Integumentary system |

Basic Curriculum
The Integumentary System was one of the very first units that we did in medical terminology. We learned all about the skin. We learned the components of the skin, conditions that effect the skin and the treatment of these conditions. We began by getting a set of word elements that are mostly used in the integumentary system and about a week or so later we had a quiz on those. Wasting no time, we continued on with vocab and a PowerPoint teaching by McNeal. All of this information would be on the exam. We then had a group project assigned to us.

Components of the Skin Project
This was a group project of three people. Basically, we got an assignment sheet with all of the parts of the skin that we needed to have included in the model. We were required to make a 3D model of the components of skin in whatever way we wanted to. People came up with all sorts of different ideas but my group used a Styrofoam cube and then showed all the layers of it like the picture above. On top of this, every group was assigned one of the skin conditions to study and create a presentation from. We were assigned acne vulgaris so we presented that and listened to everyone else's conditions. This was very helpful for the exam because we were listening to in depth reviews of all the conditions after we did this project on the components of the skin. This provides more of a hands on experience that will help comprehension.
