History of Medicine is a project designed to expose students to the different time periods and themes of medicine. It provides a background of the cultures and styles of medicine which is very important to understand before furthering any education in the medical field. Ms. Lutu presented a PowerPoint with background information on all of the time periods and themes before the class was divided into groups of 5 and we got to choose one. We then began research to eventually create an exhibit from.

Groups had to complete two assignments, their topic pitch and higher level thinking questions. The topic pitch was background information and a basic plan outline on our exhibit that we then presented to the class and got feedback on. The higher level thinking questions were questions we wrote that visitors received in a little pamphlet as they entered the exhibit area for when they were walking around viewing the different exhibits.

My group choose Chinese Medicine. This was a very interesting topic because I had no previous knowledge on it whatsoever. We learned about the techniques used in Chinese Medicine, the background on how, who and when they were discovered, the effectiveness and how popular it is today. These things are very beneficial to us because it broadens our perspective on medicine from typical Western styles. In this project specifically, our group focused on herbal treatment, acupuncture and fire cupping.

History of Medicine was a very in-depth project with extensive planning, details and necessary teamwork. Our group really had to work together in order to actually pull this off. I would say that communication is the most important part of this project and meeting deadlines! It is impossible to wait until the last minute to try and figure it all out because there simply is just so much work to be done. Procrastination is never, I repeat never, the way to go. Especially with this project. It is best to assign jobs to each of the group members early and go from there. You think that there is so much time and then all of a sudden, BOOM! Exhibit is in three days and there are countless things needed to be done. Get creative and take your time. Rushing this project will not end well.
Below are some of the other various exhibits that each represent a different time period or theme. There ends up being more than one of each time period or theme at the final exhibit because several classes all come together. Friends and family really enjoy coming to walk around to see all of our hard work and it's a lot of fun dressing up too!
