Basic Curriculum
We started off this unit by studying word elements from the muscles/joints
and later had a quiz on them. We got all of our vocab from the textbook and McNeal did his PowerPoint teaching on the all the muscles/joints and majority of the injuries/conditions that can go along with them. The exam consists of the word elements, vocab and all the information on the PowerPoint. Better get to studying, there is no time to waste that's for sure. |
This video is small sample of what a workout video may look like. This could serve as the warm-up section but it is suggested to be 5 minutes.
Group Workout Video
For our comprehensive part of this unit we were to make a 20 minute long workout video with a section of warm-up, exercise and cool down. The exercises had to use all of the muscles that were provided for us on the assignment sheet. The wide spread variety of exercises is truly endless so we were left with a lot of options. My group consisted of four people total and our exercises were based off of yoga positions mostly, but not completely. The most important part is to be sure that you are using all of the muscles that you are supposed to because that it the part you are being graded on. In order for McNeal to know that we understand what muscles we are using in each exercise, we had to make a list of each exercise and the muscles that are being used in it. Each exercise uses several muscles and we have to know where each of those are. This was extremely helpful in review for the exam. Though it was tedious and time consuming work, it created a better sense of understanding the muscles and the actual application of the movements that they perform. After we all turned in our workout videos we spent about 3 class periods working out while following along with all the videos. That was a lot of fun. We cleared out the tables and chairs to make space for the exercises. It's always nice to relax and have that time to chill after working so hard on the project.

This unit is super applicable to our daily lives, especially athletes. Students who want to be athletic trainers really enjoyed this unit because it is a huge part of what they will be working with every day. There is so much more to muscles than the typical person might think and it's very interesting to learn about. I suggest taking out a large chunk of time for your workout video because you definitely won't be getting it down on your first take.
